@davidleitman Full hybrids like a Prius run totally on gas and produce their own electricity. Yes… They are much more efficient, especially considering that its not a small car really. The plug in cars like the volt will get good mileage, but they are basically running partially on coal, or nuclear via the electric plant that is producing their power.
@wikifacts Max is focusing on the long term trend not on short term fluctuations. If you look at historical charts, you will see that nothing goes up in a straight line.

@wikifacts Gold and silver WILL drop in the short run when QE2 ends at the end of June. But the Fed is currently buying 70% of the bonds being issued by the treasury to fund the deficit. The market will not pick up the slack, not without a significant risk premium. Interest rates will rise, commodiities prices will drop, but the higher interest rates will strangle the economy and the Fed will print more money —-> much higher gold and silver prices !!!

do hybrids actually use less energy than gas cars if you factor in what it takes to produce the electricity they run on?? This kind of thing needs to be public. One thing I will say would make an improvement on fuel efficiency is reshaping cars to eliminate drag. The aptera is an example.

Most electric cars are running fully or partially on coal or nuclear or whatever. Its just hidden from you.
The same will be true of hydrogen or hydrogen fuel cell cars.
In your case, you are probably supplementing with coal.
